Who Was Who Is Who #51

So for want of anything better to write about on a Monday, I'm going to go through all my copies of Who's Who and see if I can predict who will make it over to the new DCU by the end of 2012, who might make it and who hasn't got a Yellow Peri's chance.

THE WIZARD - despite being an old Justice Society villain, I think it unlikely that the Wizard will make an appearance in Earth-2 so I don't expect him to be around too much.

WIZARD WORLD - yeah . . . no.

WONDER GIRL - one of the characters, along with Wally West's Flash, that fans are desperate to hear about since the relaunch, Donna Troy still (as at early April) hasn't been announced as appearing anywhere. Meanwhile, Cassie Sandsmark is appearing as Wonder Girl in Teen Titans so the character's name at least gets in the in place column.

WONDER WOMAN - while the Earth-2 version featured in the original Who's Who is likely to be much different from that in the upcoming Earth-2 who is the last of the Amazons, it's enough that she gets in place.

WONDER WOMAN - and the Earth-1 version gets in place as well in the critically lauded Wonder Woman series.

WOTAN - another old Justice Society villain who, like the Wizard, I don't think will be around before the end of 2012.

THE WRATH - anyone remember this Batman villain that wanted revenge against Jim Gordon? Yeah, me neither.

WYYNDE - an Atlantean warrior tied into Skataris's story, I think it unlikely we'll be seeing him any time soon.

THE WYOMING KID - despite being an Old West character, I don't think we'll see him in All Star Western. He's too much of a real cowboy as opposed to Bat Lash or Nighthawk who have gimmicks.

X'HAL - the goddess that Starfire and her people prayed to. Don't think we'll see her again.

YANKEE POODLE - another member of the Zoo Crew that won't be featured anywhere soon.

THE YELLOW PERI - a charming extra from Superboy's early adventures, it seems incredibly unlikely that we'll be seeing her again.

ZAMARONS - female counterparts to the Guardians of the Universe, they're definitely still around but with all the extra stuff happening in the Green Lantern books right now, I don't know if they'll appear before the end of 2012. Probably, but they'll go in the possible column.

ZATANNA - definitely in place as a member of Justice League Dark, it's nice to see the League's spellcaster is still around.

So in summary three in place (Wonder Girl, E-2 Wonder Woman and E-1 Wonder Woman) no definite predictions and one possible (Zamarons)

  1. Wotan shows up in #10 of Earth 2 as you well know, and I'd love to see Wraith show up myself. His son or old sidekick took up the mantle of Wraith during an arc in Batman Confidential, but unless Synder's really digging that character, he won't be showing up anytime soon. Such a shame too, with cool costume and all:(

    1. Well he's got just a couple of weeks before the end of 2012 to prove me wrong!

  2. The Wrath's original story is straight-up terrific (Michael Golden art!) and like a lot of annuals could be harmlessly reprinted, not being tied much to continuity.

    1. Reprints of annuals? I could go for that. Another Showcase Presents... volume with annuals, anyone?
