Monday Memories #44 - Who's Who #20

Each Monday this year I'll be taking a look back at a random comic, prestige format issue, graphic novel or collection of reprints from amongst my 3,000 or so comics that date from 1962 to 2003 - I figured anything in the last ten years would be too recent to hark back to.

The comics are chosen completely at random and apart from a four week lead-in period, even I don't know what I'll be looking at in the weeks to come!

Who Was Who Is Who #39

So for want of anything better to write about on a Monday, I'm going to go through all my copies of Who's Who and see if I can predict who will make it over to the new DCU by the end of 2012, who might make it and who hasn't got a Rubberduck's chance.

RUBBERDUCK - another of Captain Carrot's crew, and another we won't be seeing in the new DCU.

RYAND'R - Starfire's brother and member of the Omega Men, I'm going to guess we won't be seeing him any time soon.

SABBAC - one of Captain Marvel Jr's enemies, the chances of this guy getting an appearance in the brave new world has got to be really low.

THE SANDMAN - there are two versions in Who's Who: Wesley Dodds, the original Earth-2 Sandman and Garret Sanford. I suppose it's possible that Dodds might reappear in Earth-2 but with the Sandman name being so wrapped up with Neil Gaiman's series I sort of doubt it.

If I may be allowed to paraphrase Obi-Wan Kenobi:

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in delight and wouldn't shut up about it for the next ten years."

Not sure how I feel about this - certainly enjoyed The Sandman at the time but it feels a little less impressive whenever I re-read it. Some absolute gems amongst it without a doubt - A Midsummer Night's Dream instantly springs to mind - but it became quite bloated towards the end. How long did The Kindly Ones go on for? Eight, nine years? Certainly felt like it.


Think I'll wait for the trade paperback in a few years.

Retroactive - The 90's Part 3

As DC Comics are celebrating the creators that made an impact in the 70's, 80's and 90's, I thought I'd wander through the same decades and pull out my favourite comic of each year.

And here we are, finally at the end of the 90's.
