The Rock In A DC Movie?

Read this last night: The Rock has met with Warner Bros about something connected with DC Comics and the article contained this paragraph:
The Rock was previously connected to the role of DC Comics villain Black Adam in a proposed "Shazam" film, dating back to 2007. In July 2012, he tweeted that he was "possibly playing" another DC character, Lobo. And of course, there's the 2015 "Man of Steel" sequel, which still hasn't announced any villain role -- and could possibly add another hero alongside Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman Gal Gadot).
That last line made me instantly think - the Rock would be perfect (physically at least) as J'onn J'onnz, Martian Manhunter who appears at the end of Superman vs Batman as a lead in to a Justice League film.

Meet back here in a couple of years to see if I'm right.

Monday Memories #47 - JLA: Earth 2

Each Monday this year I'll be taking a look back at a random comic, prestige format issue, graphic novel or collection of reprints from amongst my 3,000 or so comics that date from 1962 to 2003 - I figured anything in the last ten years would be too recent to hark back to.

The comics are chosen completely at random and apart from a four week lead-in period, even I don't know what I'll be looking at in the weeks to come!

DC's June Solicitations

TRINITY OF SIN: PANDORA #1 - sort of tempted by this but, I have to admit, more from the point of it's a multiversal title, something that feeds into the forthcoming Trinity War and so I'm more interested in how it fits in rather than the character herself. Maybe I'll pick it up, maybe not.

When Did Steel Die?

Last year I did a series of posts looking back at the much maligned Detroit years of the Justice League of America, running from their formation to their less than heroic end and also including their few appearances since that series finished.

I guess with Vibe being in the news at the moment, there's some interest in the JL Detroit; coincidentally or not, Todd recently posted a question on the last storyline of the original League:
I have a question for you. As you said, at the end of issue #260 Commander Steel turns off Steel's life support and Steel dies. That would be confirmed by the flat line shown but i've read web sites (Inluding DC's) that states that Steel didn't actually die until Justice League of America #38 when Despero returns to earth and finds Steel's body in the chamber and rips it to pieces. Justice League #260 indicates that he died once the life support is shut of but Justice League #38 indicates that Steel didn't die until Despero took him out of the machine and ripped his body apart indicating that Steel was just comatose the whole time but still alive. What gives? Which is it?
I knew the issues Todd was referring to so figured I'd go back to them and see what they say.

New Justice League Title

So that's why the Martian Manhunter left Stormwatch - to go and front his own, new JLA team.

From the DC blog's announcement about the new book being written by Geoff Johns and drawn by David Finch:

"This is a very different kind of team book,” says Geoff Johns. “On first glance, people might think the heroes of the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA stand in the shadows of Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the JUSTICE LEAGUE, but Green Arrow, Katana, Martian Manhunter, the new Green Lantern, Stargirl, Vibe, Hawkman and Catwoman thrive in the shadows. They're underdogs who have everything to prove and something to lose. They're a team of unlikely heroes who will help one another discover they're as A-List as anybody -- yes, even Vibe."
Thriving in the shadows? What the heck does that mean?

And the line-up: Vibe? Katana? Catwoman for goodness' sake?! For this we lose Justice League International?

Ah, don't get me wrong - I'll pick it up because I mostly like Johns's stuff; it's just a little disappointing that the JLI's gone and we get this in its place.

Who Was Who Is Who #28

So for want of anything better to write about on a Monday, I'm going to go through all my copies of Who's Who and see if I can predict who will make it over to the new DCU by the end of 2012, who might make it and who hasn't got a Fat Marvel's chance.

MANHAWKS - having dropped The Savage Hawkman after learning Rob Liefeld was getting on board, I've no idea how likely it is that the Thanagarian aspect of the character will be developed. However, I can't see these guys ever coming back, so I guess that point's moot.

Martians, Midnighters And Cats! Oh My!

Just read this short interview with Peter Milligan, writer of Stormwatch over at CBR and in it they mention news that I'd obviously missed:
"solicitations for future issues indicate that J'onn J'onzz is set to quit Stormwatch"
Hadn't realised that, but I hope J'onn ends up somewhere instead of just vanishing into the ether.

The interview also mentioned the issue of Red Lanterns that Milligan used as a cross-over with Stormwatch which I didn't pick up, thus meaning I have missed something splendid:

Click for the full size madness
I'd like to think we live in a world where I don't need to say this but evidence would show otherwise: do NOT punch cats, people! This is a comic book, not an instruction manual.
