No More Time Travel

At least that's according to Dream Girl who's quoted on the DC Source blog as saying
"Flashpoint effect has definitely closed off time travel."
I guess that puts something of a block on Rip Hunter's activities for the foreseeable future (no pun intended) but it also closes off a big plot device. Time travel has long been a staple of science fiction and comics and to put a lock on it is either a very bold move which will force writers to come up with something different, or a very silly move which is effectively preventing writers from telling stories that can only happen due to time travel.

Wonder how long the ban will last?

Hiding From The Internets

With both Flashpoint coming to an end and Justice League starting Wednesday just gone, you'd think I'd be all over them, wouldn't you?

But no - I can't get to my comic shop until the weekend so I will be hiding away from the internets, not reading blogs or any of my news feeds, trying to avoid these things:

See you Sunday for a Cocktail, all being well.

Geography Lesson

Just a quick note about Flashpoint: Lois Lane And The Resistance:

Was it too difficult for Eddie Nunez to just Google "map of britain"?

If Amsterdam Won't Go To The Mountains . . .

I've seen reports about the rendition of Britain in this week's Flashpoint: Lois Lane and The Resistance but as I haven't read that yet, you'll have to put up with me bitching about another map SNAFU from DC.

Last week's Flashpoint: Deadman And The Flying Graysons gave us an insight into the world of Flashpoint following Aquaman's sinking of most of Western Europe, specifically in the form of this map detailing the journey of the Haley Circus:

Now Flashpoint and its attendant maps has already caused something of a stir but when I saw that, something caught my eye simply to do with the geography.

Flashpoint #1 - A Few Things Of Note

Unlike previous years' big events, I won't be annotating Flashpoint and it's various associated spin-off titles, but last week's Flashpoint #1 did contain a couple of things that either made me chuckle or wonder if there was any real significance. The annotater in me couldn't help but then think: hmmm, there may be a blog post in this.

The big two-page spread (click on the above to embiggen) that gave us our first look at the Batman held a few things: the "Wayne's World" sign in the bottom left was obviously a call-out to that dreadful, goddam movie; the "Queen of Hearts Roulette" sign probably references the JSA villain Roulette, created by Geoff Johns; and as with the best alternate worlds, there's zepplins in the air.

Who'd Like A Cocktail? #129

I guess Captain Thunder isn't talking about the David Kelley pilot
Here be Flashpoint #1 spoilers, people so continue reading at your own risk . . .

Four Becomes Three

In all the hullabaloo of Flashpoint, I've hardly mentioned the upcoming War of The Green Lanterns event that's going to be running around the same time as the GL movie will be out.  Specifically, there's been the couple of mentions of losing one of the Earth/Sector 2814 Lanterns.

At the end of Green Lantern #62, after getting his ass kicked, Hal Jordan has some sort of vision of the future:

That black on yellow dialogue fits in with what we've seen of Krona, intimating that Jordan's possession by Parallax was somehow a deliberate punishment from the Guardians. Then we have the Guardians themselves proclaiming how dangerous he is post-War (so he obviously survives - no surprise there) since "the loss of one of the Lanterns of Sector 2814."

Flashpoint Covers

While I was out last night watching the comedian Stewart Lee, DC were busy throwing out the covers of eight Flashpoint mini-series that are due to run this summer.

Flashpoint #1 Cover

The full cover for #1 of Flashpoint is revealed over at the DC Source blog and it looks nice.

The question in my mind (purely selfishly) is . . . do I annotate this series as I have previous events? Thoughts, anyone?

Flashpoint Teaser Pics

Over at the DCU Source blog they're running pictures as teases for the upcoming Flashpoint storyline . . . which I still haven't decided whether or not to annotate!

This was the first one:

and the others seem to be following the same theme: logo with a sentence above it, hinting at changes to the DCU's established (I use that term loosely) history / timeline.

Thing is, I read "The spaceship never crashed." and instantly thought of one image.
