Who Was Who Is Who #6

So for want of anything better to write about on a Monday, and with DC's New 52 well under way (how long are they keeping that title do you think?) I'm going to go through all my copies of Who's Who and see if I can predict who will make it over to the new DCU by the end of this year, who might make it and who hasn't got a Byth's chance.

BRAINIAC - there seems little doubt that some version of Brainiac will be around at some point to trouble Superman. Will he get an appearance in before the end of the year? I'm going with possible.

BRAINIAC 5 - as far as I'm aware, Brainiac 5 is alive and well in the pages of the new Legion of Super-Heroes title unless someone wants to tell me differently.

BRAIN STORM - here's a turn up for the books. While not the same character, a new villain's already shown up in the first arc of Mister Terrific with this name so I guess this old, obscure character gets counted as being in place already.

BRAIN WAVE - an old Justice Society villain, there's the chance he may show up on Earth-2 at some point but I doubt it right now.
BRAINWAVE JR. - last seen in the pages of JSA All-Stars just before Flashpoint cancelled it, there seems little chance right now of Junior turning up.

BREATHTAKER - a little known Firestorm villain who won't be seen any time soon.

BRONZE TIGER - now here's a sorely missed character that I'd like to see back in the DCU. With Catman currently MIA following the cancellation of Secret Six, can we please get a cat-themed martial artist back in publication?! If anywhere, the Suicide Squad is the obvious place for him but, not having read the book, I don't know if that suits any longer. While I'd like him to appear, I don't think it's too likely.

BROOT - one of the Omega Men so highly unlikely to make an appearance.

BROTHER BLOOD - an old Teen Titans villain that had a re-working a few years back, I think it unlikely that the new Titans will go against him before the end of the year.

THE BROTHERHOOD OF EVIL - at the time of writing (early December 2011 remember) we've already seen a couple of these characters appear in blue Beetle, hired to capture the scarab. Phobia, Warp and Plasmus are thus back in play but we've yet to see any of the others. A new member, Silverback, has appeared probably in place of Monsieur Mallah, and there's been no indication that the Brain is in charge - possibly because the last time we saw those two, Gorilla Grodd was using the Brain to beat Mallah to death. Despite that, I'm saying we've seen the Brotherhood in the New 52.

BROTHER POWER - oh sweet Cthulhu, no.

BUG-EYED BANDIT - what, you think this guy is going to make a comeback? I doubt it, especially when George Perez insisted that he die, along with the Ten-Eyed Man, back in Crisis on Infinite Earths. At least that's the story I keep reading; be darned if I can find an accurate reference for the quote, though.

BUG & BYTE - it's the 80's, personal computers have become a reality, new words and phrases are entering the language, and two instantly dated characters are created to fight Firestorm. Yeah, these two aren't coming back at all.

B'WANA BEAST - and talking of dated names, here's one from Colonial times. To be fair to Grant Morrison, B'wana's replacement of Freedom Beast was a little better; shame he didn't last too long. Will we see another Freedom Beast soon? Possible.

BYTH - an old Hawkman villain from Thanagar it's highly unlikely he'll be around as the new Hawkman appears (as far as we know) to be entirely terrestrial.

In place: Brainiac 5, Brain Storm, Brotherhood of Evil
Possible: Brainiac, Freedom (nee B'wana) Beast
No Definites this week.
