Those of you who haven't read the last issue of Justice League: Generation Lost may wish to look away now as here be spoilers.

Please Don't Be Crap. Please?
Kilowog looks absolutely superb in this new poster for the forthcoming Green Lantern movie.
I think a little part of me may die if it turns out to be rubbish.

A New Justice League International?
Hopefully this report over at Bleeding Cool has it right and a new Justice League International title will be spinning out of Justice League: Generation Lost, probably post-Flashpoint.
Will it be written by Judd Winick? No-one knows at the moment and I kinda hope not - his work on Gen Lost hasn't really impressed me (Ice's origin ret-con, anybody?) but then I am liking his Power Girl stuff.
I kinda doubt most of these guys will be around, either . . .
Anyone want to take a guess at membership?

Retroactive - The 70's Part 2
As DC Comics are celebrating the creators that made an impact in the 70's, 80's and 90's, I thought I'd wander through the same decades and pull out my favourite comic of each year.
Any excuse to look at old comics, eh?

Monday Memes #17
Last week, we had a quick look at covers where the heroes were flying high. Trouble is, if you go up, sooner or later you've got to come down.
Whether your powers get switched off mid-flight or you jump out of a place without a parachute, the end results the same.
And if there's one guy who seems to fall a lot . . .
Poor Hal Jordan . . .

No Cocktail Post This Week
Due to a combination of being stupidly busy in work and the Easter holidays, I didn't get a chance to pick up my comics this week so no quick round up from me, I'm afraid.
I know, I know, you're upset but don't worry - it just means double next week, okay?

The Votes Are In
This . . .
. . . is Ah-maze-oh (not Am-ah-zo) according to most of the thirty lovely people who voted in my poll:

Collector's Item?
According to the DCU Source blog, I have a piece of "extremely rare pin-up art" in my collection.
They're featuring some art from the newly issued Hitman, Vol. 4: Ace of Killers trade paperback and mention something from their "previous Who’s Who series". Technically the piece was from their Secret Files & Origins series but I'll forgive them that when they get off their arses and publish the new Who's Who that they promised back in December 2009.
So what piece of "extremely rare pin-up art" do I have? This one:
Nice piece of art? Undoubtedly.
Extremely rare? Doubtful.

We Can All Be Superhero Writers
I'm currently reading Just My Type: A Book About Fonts by Simon Garfield which is, as the subtitle states, a book about fonts and a damn good read it is too.
In a wonderful burst of synchronicity, Bleeding Cool featured this recently:
No word on where this awesome thing came from but I love it! If you want a slightly bigger version, go see Bleeding Cool.
In the meantime, I'm stuck on J, M and Y.
Little help, people?

Monday Memes #16
Want to highlight a particular character? Slap them on the cover with no other characters around:
I really like the way these two mirror each other - almost the exact same pose, flying away from a big circle in the background. That they're both end-of-era type stories as well just adds to it.
A single character up in the sky - doesn't get more emphatic, does it?

A Question For You All
Who is that, up there?
No, not the Justice Leaguers but the android who stands amongst them and has "slain them all!"
Yes, it's Amazo but my question is this:
Do you pronounce it A-maze-oh or Am-ah-zo?
Answers in the little poll at the top of the blog, please.

Power Girl #26
From the solicitation:
"POWER GIRL #26Matthew Sturges writing Power Girl! Yay!
Written by MATTHEW STURGES • Art and cover by SAMI BASRI
Power Girl is in the big leagues now – and the First Annual “Power Girl Convention” has asked her to attend! But is she ready to meet her #1 fan? How about when that fan decides to keep P.G. around as her best friend and personal bodyguard – forever?"
I know I read something recently that said Winick was staying with Power Girl but pleeeeeease, DC, can we have Matt Sturges instead?

Monday Memes #15
What better way to introduce a new team than by having them smash through a pane of glass?
Okay, there probably are better ways but it seems heroes can't resist smashing glass for some reason.
But hey, if they didn't, it wouldn't be a meme, would it?

Hiding From The Internet
As I won't be getting my comics until today (probably tomorrow) at the earliest, I'm frantically trying to avoid spoilers and blogs and news reports this week what with the release of Brightest Day #23 and the revelations in there.
Instead, I thought I'd mention I went to see Sucker Punch on the weekend.
I'd been really looking forward to this and from a visual point of view wasn't disappointed at all: it looks absolutely gorgeous.
From a story point of view, though, I found it incredibly lacking in depth, character development, surprises and just about anything else. As nice as it looked it simply became a collection of music videos strung together with a very mundane story.
Brendon Connelly over at Bleeding Cool obviously really likes the film and has given a commentary to the first few minutes which you can watch/listen to here. Honestly, though, I don't think he offers anything that the average viewer won't pick up - I certainly didn't find anything new in his thoughts.
Like I said, it looks beautiful but that's about it.

Taking A Different View
Blogger are trialling a couple of new ways you can view Blogger powered blogs - simply add /view to the end of the blog's address and you'll get a button in the top right hand corner offering you a choice of Snapshot, Flipcard, Mosaic, Timeslide and Sidebar.
Here's how Crisis on Earth-Prime looks in Snapshot mode:
Click the picture to get a better look . . . or simply click here to go have a look yourself.
Oh, and in case you're not using a feed reader - I recommend Google Reader, myself - you can use the Crisis in Your Inbox! box over on the left to receive a mail every time this blog's updated.
Enjoy!

Perusing Previews - April 2011
Pleasantly surprised to see this little item on sale in the recent issue of Previews:
That's Ghost from the Dark Horse series of the same name who last appeared way back in 2000. Odd that the character doesn't have a series but she still gets a new action figure.
What else caught my eye in this month's Previews?

Monday Memes #14
Nothing says drama like the threat of death and nothing screams death like a sacrifice! While quite rare, the All Star Squadron appeared to be rife with it back in the old days:
But it carried on into the modern age as well:
Hey look - the Tasmanian Devil's going to die! Don't worry, he'll be alright.

Time Flies By
It can sometimes be a little daunting - even scary - when you look at your comic collection and think "How long have I been buying these things?" I've got just under 6,000 or so comics and trades in my study, not counting the 300 or so that are in piles waiting for me to get my arse in gear and put them on to e-bay and while that may be small in comparison to some, it's been built up over a fairly long time.
As the old song goes, "It was twenty years ago today . . ." and, just for the hell of it, here's what I was buying all those years ago - at least, everything I still have with a cover date of April 1991.
Back when Green Arrow had to carry a "Mature Readers" tag in order to show Ollie blood and guts. How times have changed, huh? This was still a good couple of years before Mike Grell left the series and it was quickly absorbed back into the DCU proper. I remember reading somewhere that throughout his run, Grell never actually referred to Green Arrow by that name . . . or am I confused?
