Who Was Who Is Who #31

So for want of anything better to write about on a Monday, I'm going to go through all my copies of Who's Who and see if I can predict who will make it over to the new DCU by the end of 2012, who might make it and who hasn't got a Mysto's chance.

MR. TERRIFIC - the Michael Holt version of the character is definitely in place, despite his series getting cancelled so that alone puts him in the in place column. A few months back (at least from the time of writing in mid-March) DC released some teaser designs and there was a different Mr Terrific featured, so it seems likely we'll see an Earth-2 version at some point as well.

MON-EL - the one-time Superboy stand in may or may not be back in the Legion; Dave Sopko, the official COEP Legion go to guy, says "Still active in the Legion, and current Leader."

MONGUL - the original was killed in a very off-hand manner by Neron in Underworld Unleashed ages ago and while his son took up the mantel some time later, he got his arse handed to him by Sinestro after Mongul Jr attempted to take control of the Sinestro Corps. As the Green Lantern franchise remained mostly unchanged following the New 52, I guess it's possible that we may see Mongul again, but I don't think it'll be before the end of the year.

THE MONITOR - as in the main guy from the original Crisis on Infinite Earths. As it's been confirmed that the Crisis never happened post-Flashpoint, it's safe to say we won't see him again.

THE MONITOR (actually the Anti-Monitor) - as he referred to himself as The Monitor, the Anti-Monitor gets dealt with here. Like Mongul above, he became part of the Green Lantern stories so it's possible we might see him again (although as Crisis never happened, that could lead to a whole new level of continuity headache) but not before the end of the year.

THE MONOCLE - from memory, I think the Monocle died before Blackest Night so while he may be back in the brave new world at some point, I don't think it'll be before 2012 finishes.

MONSIEUR MALLAH - a new Brotherhood of Evil was featured in Blue Beetle but instead of Mallah, a new character called Silverback was used, effectively taking his place. For that reason, I don't think we'll see Mallah any time soon.

MORDRU - and another one who's already in place, the wizard can be seen in the pages of Demon Knights.

MORGAINE LE FEY - I think Morgaine's last major outing was in the pages of Trinity. I'll put her in the possible column as she could show up in Demon Knights at some point.

MORPHEA - one of Atari Force's members. So no, she won't be around.

MOTHER BOX - we've seen these in the pages of Justice League already (and thankfully they've dropped the extra X's that Grant Morrison put in the names) but as it's an object, I'm not counting them.

MULTI-MAN - having become something of a joke character thanks to his membership of the Injustice League, I don't think we'll be seeing him soon.

MULTIPLEX - an old Firestorm villain, it wouldn't surprise me if we saw him or a version of him at some point, but probably not before the year's out.

MYRWHYDDEN - a (very) old Green Lantern villain, I'll be incredibly surprised if he makes a return at any point.

MYSTO - you know, he's the sort of character that James Robinson could ressurect in Earth-2 . . . or at least he would have been until we found out more info about the new Earth.

NATHANIEL DUSK - I think the days of trenchcoated private eyes are long gone.

NEBIROS - one of Blue Devil's bad guys, I can't see him returning without Devil in tow and as we've heard nothing about the Devil post-Flashpoint, it seems likely we won't be getting Nebiros.

So in summary two in place (Mr Terrific and Mordru) no definite predictions and one possible (Morgain Le Fey)

  1. Morgaine is the baddie in the current arc of Demon Knights...

  2. Sadly, without the classic armour!

    1. Really?

Okay, it may not be the classic armour but it's close enough to count, surely? Gold, big horns, what might be a face plate...
