DC's September Solicits

I don't normally go through the solicitations with any great detail, just enough to pick out a Don't Ask post and that's about it. With all these zero issues coming out in September, a few things caught my eye:

Written by TONY BEDARD and KEITH GIFFEN
Art and cover by IG GUARA and J.P. MAYER
On sale SEPTEMBER 19 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
Where was the Scarab before it merged with the current Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes?
Look - Keith Giffen's writing Blue Beetle again! Couple that with the fact that the story's about the scarab before Jaime and the internet explodes with Ted Kord anticipation in three . . . two . . . one . . .

Written by JAMES ROBINSON
Art by TOMAS GIORELLO
Cover by IVAN REIS and JOE PRADO
1:25 B&W Variant cover by IVAN REIS
On sale SEPTEMBER 5 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
It’s the tragic origin of Earth 2’s greatest villain!
Don’t miss Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in action on Earth 2!
"tragic origin of Earth 2’s greatest villain"? Is that going to be the villainous Terry Sloane as glimpsed in Earth 2 #2? If so, snell's not going to be happy.

GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #0
Written by TONY BEDARD
Art by AARON KUDER
Cover by GUILLEM MARCH
1:25 B&W cover by GUILLEM MARCH
On sale SEPTEMBER 19 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
PROLOGUE TO THE THIRD ARMY!
A new team forms as Atrocitus, Larfleeze, Star Sapphire Carol Ferris, Saint Walker, Arkillo and Kyle Rayner prepare for war against the Guardians of the Universe!
So we lose Fatality and Bleez for Carol Ferris and Atrocitus. Shame, I always kinda liked Fatality.

GREEN ARROW #0
Written by JUDD WINICK
Art by FREDDIE E. WILLIAMS II and ROB HUNTER
Cover by IVAN REIS and JOE PRADO
On sale SEPTEMBER 5 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
Oliver Queen is young, rich and reckless…what could possibly go wrong?
Discover the events leading up to the birth of Green Arrow, and Ollie’s history with Roy Harper!
Who would have thought that I would welcome Judd Winick back as Green Arrow writer? I don't know if this is just a one-off or if (please, please, please) Ann Nocenti's no longer writing the book from September but it gives me a little more incentive to stick around with this title.

[Update - darn, looks like Winick's a one-off according to this article and Nocenti's still the regular writer. Unless it improves dramatically, this title's getting close to being dropped.]

  1. Thanks so much, I never read the solicitations and would have missed the Blue Beetle stuff.

If you're reading Green Arrow, please explain Ollie's horror towards the end - does he realise he's addicted to metal clothing?

    1. I can only explain that sudden gasp of horror as a wonderful example of Nocenti's dreadful writing. It makes no sense and comes out of nowhere.
