So for want of anything better to write about on a Monday, I'm going to go through all my copies of Who's Who and see if I can predict who will make it over to the new DCU by the end of 2012, who might make it and who hasn't got a Lord Shilling's chance.
LEGION OF SUPER-PETS - oh, bless 'em. Another glorious idea from a more innocent time that won't ever see the light of day in mainstream DC continuity again. Or at least not before the end of 2012. Dave Sopko, the official COEP Legion go to guy, agrees saying "Sadly, the Super Pets will likely not be heard from again. Although Krypto was seen in Action I believe...no group appearances though."
THE LEGION OF SUPER-VILLAINS - with the Legion up and running, I suppose it's possible that their evil counterparts may well show up at some point. I doubt they'll be around before the year's out, though I'm willing to take Dave's word for it when he says "Big story just before the reboot, so they should be on the back burner as a group for a while."
LIBERTY BELLE - with the recent (writing this in early March) news about what we can expect in Earth-2, it seems increasingly unlikely that we'll have a retro alternate earth to look forward to. Having said that, some characters have already been mentioned as appearing in Earth-2 so I'm putting Belle into the possibles.
LIGHTNING LAD - yeah, of course he's back in the Legion; even I know that.
LIGHTNING LASS - and where the Lad goes, the Lass is sure to be right behind him. And for the record, check out the picture on the right - is that not the most uncomfortable stance for anybody to be in?
LIGHTNING LORD - whereas their nasty, villainous brother is less likely to be around. As far as I know he hasn't shown up, but Dave says "Active in the Legion of Super Villains, may be seen again this year if the missing twin story line is revisited." so he goes in the possibles.
LIGHTRAY - with the first Justice League arc having wrapped up last week and only a smattering of Apokoliptian New Gods being seen, I think it's fair to say that while Lightray and his friends may be back at some point, they won't do so before the end of 2012.
LILITH - another Teen Titan who fell in combat, killed by a Superman Android. Far as I know she's still dead post-Flashpoint so probably won't be turning up any time soon.
LITTLE BOY BLUE AND THE BLUE BOYS - good Lord, DC, what were you ever thinking?! I seriously doubt that even James Robinson would be able to do anything with these guys.
LITTLE CHEESE - as with Captain Carrot and the rest of the Zoo Crew, I can't see Little Cheese or any of them showing up in the new DCU.
LOIS LANE - yes she's around; even though the post-Flashpoint world annulled the marriage of Lois and Supes, you can't have Superman kicking around without Lois. This, however, does not seem to apply to Earth-2 where, at the time of writing, it's recently been revealed that Lois is dead.
LOOKER - killed during the Infinite Crisis if I remember rightly, and I don't think many people mourned.
THE LORD OF TIME - an old Justice League villain, I somehow doubt we'll be seeing him again.
LORD SATANIS - big bad demon who ended up ruling Hell for about five minutes before Flashpoint came along and re-wrote everything. Doubt that we'll see him before the end of 2012 if at all.
LORD SHILLING - while some of the Western heroes have been given a new lease of life in the excellent All-Star Western, I somehow doubt we'll be seeing this British spy in its pages.
THE LOSERS - while DC's first stab at a war comic didn't make the grade, I guess there's a chance the Losers could show up at some point in G.I. Combat so I'll put them in the possibles.
So in summary, three already in place (Lightning Lad and Lass, Lois Lane) no definite predictions and two possibles (Liberty Belle and Lightning Lord)
Surprisingly enough, Looker will be back in August in National Comics...
ReplyDeleteYep, read that when they made the original announcement and groaned because by that point I'd finished all these predictions and knew that, regarding Looker, I was now completely wrong.
DeleteBugger.
And Lilith - a new version - turned up in the hideous Culling storyline that infected Teen Titans, Superboy and Legion Lost. I wasn not happy ... she's EEEEEVIL!
ReplyDeleteAnd once again I got it wrong - missed her appearance during the whole Culling thing, so cheers for spotting it.
DeleteLittle Boy Blue and the Blue Boys is delightful. So hands off Dc; you'll only murder them in one of your sensationalist artsy series or turn them into prostitutes or something. After all, comics aren't for kids, are they?
