Who Was Who Is Who #24

So for want of anything better to write about on a Monday, I'm going to go through all my copies of Who's Who and see if I can predict who will make it over to the new DCU by the end of 2012, who might make it and who hasn't got a Killer Moth's chance.

KANJAR RO - one of the League's earliest foes, he's cropped up over the years; I think the last time was in the pages of Trinity. With the League being set up to take on the biggest foes, though, I'd be surprised if he gets a look in before the end of the year.

KARATE KID - died horribly in the horrible pages of Countdown. Did he recover post-Flashpoint? Maybe Dave Sopko, the official COEP Legion go to guy, says "Has died at least twice that we know of, and there seems to be another version of Val out there.  I do not think that he will be seen again this year though."

KATANA - inextricably linked with the Outsiders, I'd be very surprised to see her in any other team and, as they have yet to appear in the new DCU, I'm going to say we won't see her before the end of the year.

THE KEY - apart from a few cameos here and there, I don't think we've seen much of the Key since the end of JLA have we? Johns being such a fan boy, we might get a cameo of him in a flashback or something, though, so I'll put him in the possibles.

THE KHUNDS - for a while the Khunds were DC's stock alien bad guys but I don't think they've been a serious threat for some time. Dave says "The Legion's answer to the Klingons...or is that the other way around? Will more than likely be seen again as a threat...maybe next year or later though."

KID DEVIL - aw, bless! Look at him! Blue Devil's sidekick grew up in the last volume of Teen Titans, got himself some powers, made some bad mistakes and, like many a Titan before him, died in the line of duty. Sadly, I don't think we'll be seeing him again.

KID ETERNITY - here's another character that keeps appearing and then getting killed off. He's a concept that no-one seems to be entirely comfortable with so it seems unlikely we'll be seeing him before the end of 2012 but not entirely impossible. He goes in the possibles just in case.

KID FLASH - while the original Who's Who features Wally West, I'm going to count him as being in place as Kid Flash (Bart Allen) is in the pages of Teen Titans. At this moment (end of Feb) I'm unaware of any plans to have Wally return in any capacity.

KILLER FROST - the new (February, remember!) Firestorm title has had some old names turn up already. Cliff Carmichael has appeared in charge of a military style outfit one of whom suffers an accident that looks set to turn her into the new Killer Frost. With that in mind, she's going in the definite column.

KILLER MOTH - oh please tell me there's not a chance we'll be seeing this guy again!

KILLER SHARK - there have been a couple of versions of this villain but I think it really is safe to go back in the water again. (Sorry.)

THE KING - an old crime fighter who might vaguely, possibly, just turn up on Earth-2. Or maybe not as today (still in February!) saw the release of Jim Lee's E-2 Batman designs along with a note saying "he's willing to kill so it's not your grandfather's Earth-2!" Well, that was the gist of it.

KING FARADAY - one of DC's spy masters, I'd half expect Faraday to show up somewhere in the new DCU so I'm putting him in the possibles.

KNIGHTS OF THE GALAXY - hahahahahahaha. No.

KOBRA - the crazy Kali worshipping terrorist for all seasons, Kobra and his organisation showed up in the really rather good JSA vs Kobra but I don't think we've seem him since.

KOLE - pretty sure I read that Marv Wolfman created Kole for the Teen Titans so that he would have someone to kill off during Crisis on Infinite Earths just like he was forcing other writers and editors to do! Apart from appearing in flashbacks or as one of the undead, I don't think we've seen her since.

KONG THE UNTAMED - a poor man's Anthro, I don't think even Grant Morrison would both with this kid.

So in summary: one in place (Kid Flash) one definite (Killer Frost) and three possibles (the Key, Kid Eternity and King Faraday)

  1. Katana is a member of Birdfs Of Prey these days...
Kid Eternity will have one of the rotating spots in the forthcoming National Comics, but I'm not surer if that will appear by the end of 2012

    1. Katana's in BoP? Bugger, should have spotted that.

Yeah Kid Eternity's issue should be out next month or maybe August, I think

By the way, not sure why but your comment was marked as spam by Blogger. What have you been up to? ;)

    2. Any time I use something besides Firefox to post a comment, Blogger's been reacting badly to it. No idea why...

Katana's costume is completely different in nu52, which is probably how you missed her...

  2. We're getting an all-new Origin in Batgirl #0 this September, so for Killer Moth it's there or nowhere.

  3. both King Faraday and Cliff Carmichael had some history on the Suicide Squad in the old DCU. in fact, Faraday shot Carmichael dead after Carmichael had revealed himself as a traitor to the Squad. Faraday has already made his debut in Young Justice i'll be looking forward to seeing him in the new DCU.
Kobra has now become a new cult group called Basilisk in the new DCU. i hate that new name and it's one of the things that's pissing me off about the new SS book.

    1. If the Kobra cult's shown up with a new name, I guess the leaser can't be far behind. If he makes an appearance, let me know, yeah?
