Who Was Who Is Who #46

So for want of anything better to write about on a Monday, I'm going to go through all my copies of Who's Who and see if I can predict who will make it over to the new DCU by the end of 2012, who might make it and who hasn't got a Tiger's chance.

THE TERMINATOR - as in Deathstroke before he really became known by that name. He's made it through into the DCU, helming his own title as well so he's definitely in place.

TERRA - poor old Terra didn't have a good time of it in the pre-Flashpoint world and ended up a traitor to the Teen Titans and then a Black Lantern. The new Terra, Atlee, was a nice addition to Power Girl's title but she's been lost post-Flashpoint. However, it has been announced that a new Terra will be in the forthcoming (this is written in early April, my friends) Ravagers series so while it may not be the same person, the name's in use.

TERRA-MAN - oh good lord. No.

THE TERRIBLE TRIO - you know, despite how dreadful they look, I could almost see Grant Morrison doing something with these three. I hope he doesn't, though.

THANAGAR - the world of Hawkman got mentioned just before I dropped that title but as it's a planet, I'm not counting it either way.

THAROK - one of the Fatal Five, Dave Sopko, the official COEP Legion go to guy, says "A chance of seeing this member of the Fatal Five again by years end...however slim." so he'll go in the possible list.

THIA - with the gods and monsters focus in the Wonder Woman title, it wouldn't surprise me if Thia showed up but I think she's more closely linked with the Teen Titans so I doubt it.

THE THINKER - no sign as yet of this old Firestorm villain but I can see him turning up as a pawn in the Zither Corporation or something. Possible but not that likely.

THRILLER - according to the original article, this "series is not part of the DC Universe timeline" so no need to worry about it then.

THUNDER AND LIGHTNING - pretty sure one if not both of these were killed pre-Flashpoint but either way, I don't think we'll see them soon.

PETER CANNON: THUNDERBOLT - will the hoo-ha about Before Watchmen (I'm guessing there'll be hoo-ha as the first issues haven't been released yet as I write this) stimulate any interest in the Charlton characters? Probably not so I don't expect to see Mr Cannon running round in his blue and red shorts just yet.

TIGER - ah, the cheery faced sidekick of Judomaster who went on to be a psycho and kill lots of people. Yeah, don't think he'll be back soon.

TIGORR - no word on the Omega Men in the DCU so I don't expect to see him either.

TIMBER WOLF - one of the Legionnaires who's been appearing in Legion Lost apparently so he's already in place.

TIME COMMANDER - haven't seen this guy for many a year right now so I don't think he'll be back around before the end of the year.

THE TIME TRAPPER - sheesh, even an almost complete novice like myself knows the Time Trapper's continuity is more convoluted than Hawkman's ever was. Was he some enemy of the Legion's from the future? Was he Cosmic Boy gone bad? Was he Superboy-Prime gone badder? Whether anything will become clearer in the New DCU is unknown, much like whether he'll even turn up by the end of the year. Dave Sopko, the official COEP Legion go to guy, agrees saying "It will be years before this guy is seen again. Especially after the Superman Prime debacle."

So in summary three in place (Deathstroke the Terminator, Terra and Timber Wolf) no definite predictions and one possible (Tharok)

  1. Tharok is in the current Legion of Super-Heroes storyline, while Time Trapper has shown up in Legion: Secret Origin. No chance of Peter Cannon, though, as he's got a new series at another publisher.

    1. Looks like both me and Dave were wrong on Time Trapper, then.

And yeah, DC have no need of Peter Cannon now they have Ozymandias back in print!

      Cheers as always, Martin!
