Monday Memories #12 - Green Lantern #138
Each Monday this year I'll be taking a look back at a random comic, prestige format issue, graphic novel or collection of reprints from amongst my 3,000 or so comics that date from 1962 to 2003 - I figured anything in the last ten years would be too recent to hark back to.
The comics are chosen completely at random and apart from a four week lead-in period, even I don't know what I'll be looking at in the weeks to come!
GREEN LANTERN #138 - July 2001
Honestly? It took me a while to get round to completing this post - the Judd Winick years of Green Lantern weren't exactly my favourite, despite the lovely pencil work of Dale Eaglesham.
Here we have Kyle Rayner and Jade sharing the story as Kyle's given her a GL ring he's created and together they head off to an alien world to oversee a peace treaty signing. The invitation to that signing offers up a lovely little scene right at the start of the issue between Kyle and the Martian Manhunter when J'onn tells him the aliens asked for Green Lantern:
Normally photocopied panels just smacks of laziness but here it builds nicely to the self-deprecating pay-off.
And it's always nice to see J'onn being pleasant.

Very nice work. Boy, I do miss Kyle as THE Earth's Green Lantern, with a private life and everything.
ReplyDeleteAnd the new JJ is simply hateful.
As much as I like Hal, I prefer Kyle, I have to admit.
DeleteAnd yeah, not liking what I've seen of the new J'onn so far. Isn't it nice to see him portrayed as someone with a sense of humour, like in the scans above?
