Who Was Who Is Who #37

So for want of anything better to write about on a Monday, I'm going to go through all my copies of Who's Who and see if I can predict who will make it over to the new DCU by the end of 2012, who might make it and who hasn't got a Reactron's chance.

PUZZLER - umm . . . who, now? Apparently an old Superman villain, "obsessed with games, tricks and puzzles" who was intent on outwitting Supes. Yeah, don't think we'll be seeing him.

QUAKEMASTER - pretty sure this is one Batman villain that we won't be seeing again.

QUEEN BEE - there's been a couple of versions of the Queen Bee: the original alien seductress and her modern-day JLA version along with the Queen of Bialya who caused trouble for the Justice League way back when it was funny. Will we see either in the New 52? I don't think so.

THE QUESTION - poor old Vic Sage died during 52 and Renee Montoya took over the role of the faceless detective. She had a major role in Final Crisis and, as far as I can see, has turned up in the pages of Batwoman since the relaunch but is she the Question? I don't know so feel free to tell me if she is or not.

QUICKSILVER - possibly better known as Max Mercury he was the mentor of Wally West's Flash as well as Impulse / Kid Flash. With both of them out of the main Flash family at the moment (at least at the start of April when I'm writing this) I doubt we'll see Max whatever his name is.

QUISLET - one of the Legion's friends, I really don't have enough knowledge to suggest whether or not we'll see this thing again. Dave Sopko, the official COEP Legion go to guy, says "I think he has disappeared agian. Not sure if we'll see him again before years end."

QWARD - once the home to Green Lantern's enemies and then home to the Anti-Monitor and then the name of the entire Anti-Matter universe, we might see it again but either way it's a place, not a character so I'm not counting it.

THE RAG DOLL - the original's son played a major role in the much lamented Secret Six series while his dad ended up being killed a couple of times. Will we see either version? Unlikely, I think.

RAGMAN - last seen with any regularity in Shadowpact a few years ago, I think it's unlikely that he'll be back in the DCU for some time.

RAINBOW RAIDER - one of Flash's lesser rogues, he ended up getting killed and returning as a Black Lantern during Blackest Night. I kinda doubt that he'll show up against the Flash any time soon.

RANN - I'd like Rann to appear because right back in the very first of these posts, I put Adam Strange down as a definite appearance before the end of 2012 and if you have one, you'll have the other. Whether it shows or not, I'm not counting it - it's not a character, folks.

RA'S AL GHUL - did we see Ra's in the shadows at the end of the first story arc in Justice League? I can't be certain, but that was who I thought was there so I'm going to put him in the possible column.

RAVEN - tricky one to call this. The Teen Titans have formed around Red Robin and none of the old guard have been seen, really. I suppose it's possible that she may show up somewhere in the DCU but I won't hold my breath.

THE RAY - while it's the original that's featured in Who's Who, at the time of writing (April, remember?) we've just had a new Ray finish his first mini-series. While the man in the suit may be different, it's enough to put him in the in place column.

REACTRON - man, Supergirl had some lame villains in the past, didn't she? Can't see this guy reappearing.

RED BEE - a new version of the character appeared in the much missed (by me at least) Freedom Fighters mini-series although as mentioned when I discussed Phantom Lady, there is the vague possibility of more FF stories. If it happens, though, I guess Red Bee wouldn't be high on the list of members.

RED STAR - Russia's member of the Teen Titans it would be nice to see him back. Thing is, the name's firmly rooted in the Soviet era and since the relaunch I can't see it being particularly relevant so I'm going to have to go with a no.

So in summary one in place (The Ray) no definite predictions and one possible (Ra's al Ghul)

  1. More than a friend, Quislet is a Legionnaire! I wouldn't be surprised to see him back soon.

And there's no way the JLA books will be able to resist a Queen Bee, she's one of the team's few female foes (who else is there, the equally royal Queen of Fables; Lorelei?). Though not by year's end.

Raven was seen on screen in Teen Titans #1, and Trigon is due in Phantom Stranger #1, so I'd say a proper appearance will come.

    1. Cheers, Martin - Raven's running out of time to appear before the end of the year!

  2. Ra's al Ghul appeared quite prominently in Batman Incorporated #2
